One of the most distinctive sounds of the 1980s was gated reverb - and it was invented by accident by Phil Collins! He was playing a simple beat when their fancy new recording console picked up Phil’s drumming by accident which resulted in a thick punchy reverb coming back to the studio. Phil then went on to popularise it with his classic, “I Can Feel It Coming In The Air Tonight”.
